The Waterpocket Fold in south-central Utah is a 100-mile long wrinkle of rock in the Earth/s crust. Erosion has cut into several layers of rock, exposing lots of color and creating a number of interesting rock formations. Capitol Reef National Park preserves much of this landscape.
