The history of the village of Muenster, & St Peter’s colony, Abbey, College, and Cathedral, is very closely related. The settlement of St. Peter's colony occurred in 1903 when about 1,000 German Catholic settlers arrived, mainly from Minnesota, to occupy 700 homesteads. They were accompanied by several Benedictine oblate monks from Collegeville Minnesota. The settlers & the monks immediately erected a log church and monastery (which became St Peter’s Abbey in 1910).
