<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> Salona<br> Sightseeing in Dubrovnik picture - A view over the theatre at the Salona ruin. Salona was a prosperous Roman city on the Illyrian coast and several emperors including Diocletian, Galerius and Constantine were all probably born in villages near here. In the 7th century Slavic tribes invaded the region and destroyed the city. Most of the already reduced (by plague) population fled to the ruins of Diocletian&#39;s fortified palace/mausoleum and settled in. Slowly Salona crumbled into ruin and the new city of Split grew up around the Palace. </div></nolayer></noembed>
