There is an ancient castle here... the seat of the Duke of Northumberland. It's the second largest inhabited castle in England, after Windsor Castle. I understand that The Alnwick Garden opened to the paying public in April 2002 and was soon overwhelmed by its success. It received 30,000 visitors in its first year and has become the second largest attraction in the Northeast of England.
