The high altar features a replica
Sightseeing in Montréal picture - of Bernini's vast baldachin (decorative canopy) in Saint Peter's in Rome. It was created in Rome in 1900, made of red copper, fashioned by hand & decorated in gold leaf. It was donated to the cathedral by the Sulpicians. Interestingly, the church was designed to deliberately intensify the effect of burning candles.
