Chief Joseph Brant (1742-1807)
Monuments & Memorials in Ottawa picture - Leader, warrior, diplomat, counsel to King George III, scholar, teacher and missionary, this great Chief persuaded the Mohawks in New York and their allies to support the British throughout the war. After the war many of his followers settled in the Niagara Peninsula of southern Ontario, where at his behest King George built the first Anglican church in Ontario in 1785.
