A fortnight ago, I hoped onto the Eurostar from London and took a quick side-trip to Lille, a small town in France [and on to Brugge, in Belgium - but that later], and was very surprised. Greeting me on coming into town was a grand display of elephants - yes, very large, very detailed, very well made elephants celebrating 'Lille3000'. Every two years, Lille will celebrate some cultural event, to promote cultural understanding and friendship between peoples and in a way where the whole town - its townsfolk, people, businesses
