The main building contains 1.5 million square feet of space , the equivalent of 18 football fields. Exhibition and public space takes up 325,000 square feet of that space. Their collection has more than 125 million natural science specimens and cultural artifacts including 30 million insects, 4.5 million plants, 7 million fish in liquid-filled jars, & 2 million cultural artifacts, just to name a few.
