The statue portrays Major General Andrew Jackson reviewing his troops at the Battle of New Orleans, the last battle of the War of 1812. Created in 1853, it is the first equestrian statue cast in the United States. Sculptor Clark Mills, who was self-taught & who had never seen an equestrian statue before, used great creativity in casting this statue.
