Today, the White House, with six levels in the residence, has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, eight staircases, and three elevators. Each president is allowed to decorate certain areas to his tastes, & many have lent their styles and personality, some of which still remain today - for example, Lincolns bedroom. In most peoples eyes (including mine), the White House is actually much smaller than they imagined. Even U.S citizens think that it is bigger than any other house in the world, but that is not the case. Unfortunately, since 9/11, White House tours are no longer available to the general public. There are, however, virtual tours on the Web: http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/whtour/360index.html http://www.whitehouse.org/tours/virtual.asp This one also has a floor plan: http://www.visitingdc.com/white-house/virtual-tour-white-house.htm Lots of background info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House
