for the Performing Arts, located at 2700 F Street NW, on the banks of the Potomac River near the Lincoln Memorial. The center opened in 1971 as a living memorial to John F. Kennedy. Shortly after President Kennedys assassination, Congress designated the Center as a living memorial to Kennedy. In addition to six concert halls, there's an awe-inspiring Grand Foyer one of the largest rooms in the world with the famous, but controversial, 8 foot, 3000 pound bronze bust of Kennedy by American sculptor Robert Berks. [Some people say it looks like its made out of chocolate, or chopped liver. Im not crazy about it either.] The display of flags in the Hall of States & the Hall of Nations is also impressive. Their web site included a virtual tour: http://www.kennedy-center.org/about/history.html Good info here too, incl fun some facts: http://www.worldstrides.com/sitesandsnapshots/dc_sites/kennedycenter.asp
