Previously, it was the original home of the Corcoran Gallery, which displayed the private collection of William Wilson Corcoran&#39;s art beginning in 1859. By the 1870&#146;s the collection had outgrown the building and Corcoran had a new museum built. </div></nolayer></noembed>
