Sightseeing in Washington D.C. picture - The hotel, as usual, was centrally located on 16th Ave & K Street. two short blocks from the White House. The hotel opened in 1943 as the Statler Hotel, was one of the few grand hotels completed in the country during WWII, & the only major hotel opened in Washington during that time. It was purchased by Conrad Hilton in 1954, renamed the Statler Hilton in 1975, then the Capital Hilton in 1977. Over $60 million has been spent on renovations, restorations & remodeling since 1987.
