DOUGLAS ROBERT MCCOLL, 79, died June 2, 2007 of pancreatic cancer, in the comfort of his own home in San Leandro. He was born on May 28, 1928 in San Francisco.

During World War II, 14-year old McColl worked as a mate on tug boats out of the Port of San Francisco. His earnings supported his mother and four younger siblings. Once hostilities ended, he returned to San Leandro High School to get his diploma, and then found work as a carpenter.
