Here are some photos of my week in the amazing town of San Pedro de Atacama, situated in the Atacama desert at the foot of the magnificent Andes near the Chilean border with Argentina and Bolivia. San Pedro is an amazing oasis arising out of the desert surrounded by Volcanoes 6000 metres high. During my time here I visited the magnificent Valle de la luna, or Valley of the Moon, which is a valley with amazing shadows and rock formations making it look like the surface of the moon and resembling no other place on earth, the Tatio Geysers, which at 4300 metres are the world´s highest geysers. We got up at 0400 to see the smoke and water shooting from the geysers. Along with people I met here, we went to the nearby beautiful valley and explored the ancient fortress of Pukara where the local Atacameño people fought Pedro de Valdivia on his way into Chile and the best of all, we climbed Cerro Toco, a 5630 metre mountain with magnificent views on top of the Andes. It was very tough in the altitude and my first taste of extreme altitude trekking, but I made it through ok, and it was absoloutely magnificent on top.
