To the victor the spoils - and the memorials. In truth the responsibility for the victory over Nazi Germany belongs to Russia, who's extraordinary sacrifice in lives and material eventually, inevitably crushed the Nazi war machine. This is not to depreciate the efforts of the other allies, who all paid a terrible price for that victory. But the sacrifice of the Russians bears no comparison - her greatest cities destroyed & ruined; 7 million soldiers & 20 million civilians killed; untold more millions injured and disabled.
