The Kazan Cathedral on Nevsky Prospect. Commissioned by Paul I and built between 1801-11. With its sweeping collonade it was modelled on St Peter's Basilica in Rome. It was built to hold the miraculous icon of Kazan, Mother of God. This icon was smuggled out of Russia during the revolution and now resides in the Vatican.
