Moscow
Sightseeing in Russia picture - In the centre of the Kremlin is a cluster of churches that date back to the late fifteenth century. In Moscow's earliest days the Kremlin was Moscow. The Kremlin's fortified walls protected the churche, the Prince's palace and the houses of the mighty. By the mid fifteenth century the city had expanded so much that the Princes of Moscovy cleared out the old buildings and turned the Kremlin into their own private citadel. They built themselves new churches, more chapels really, for their own private worship. Here we can see the Cathedral of the Annunciation, the Great Bell Tower, and the Cathedral of the Archangel. All were built in the early sixteenth century.
