Every two years, over Easter weekend, Wanaka in New Zealand hosts an International Airshow suitably named 'Warbirds over Wanaka' . The first Airshow was held in 1988 and from small beginnings it took off . The three day event attracts people and aircraft from around the world providing many great moments for it's dedicated followers and families enjoying a great day out . The 2006 Airshow attracted an estimated 110,000 people through the gates over the three days . Wanaka airport provides a magical setting amongst the rivers , lakes and mountains of Central Otago . Aeroplanes taking part cover a very wide spectrum of the old 'Warbirds' to aerobatics, RNZAF, modern transport and civilian planes . There are many static displays , trade expo and amusements .
