Only 8 kms from Bikaner, this is where the members Bikaner's ruling family were cremated. There ashes were placed in these umbrella-shaped cenotaphs called chattris. Early cenotaphs were made of red sandstone with fine ornamental carvings. Later cenotaphs were made from beautifully sculpted marble, some ornamented with Bikaneri (miniature) paintings on the ceilings. The most impressive one is said to be Maharaja Suraj Singh's white marble cenotaph which has spectacular Bikaneri paintings on the ceiling. (We didn't have time to stop long so I just snapped a photo from the gate.)
