Durga is also the goddess of a traditional Rajasthan caste of bards called the Charans who, in olden times, composed & sang poetry in praise of the nobles and their feudal lords. It was an oral tradition of poetry in a very old language called dingal. There are only a few surviving Charan who keep this tradition alive.
