made of red sandstone & marble, is considered one of India's most impressive fort complexes. (The red sandstone comes from the nearby village of Dulmera.) Rajasthan is famous for its forts & palaces. Of the state’s 7 well-known forts, we visited 4 of them ;o) This fort was built between 1589 and 1594 by Raja Rai Singh, one of the most distinguished generals in the army of Mughal Emperor Akbar. (Please see the introductory narrative for a brief discussion about the Mughals.) Palaces & luxurious suites were added by subsequent maharajas.
