This formidable, unassailable fortress, one of the few major forts that was not built on a hilltop, has never been conquered. A deep moat (now dry) encircled the fort’s perimeter wall. The thick, crenellated stone wall, nearly a kilometer in length, has 37 bastions. The two main gates are Karan Pol & Suraj Pol (sun gate).
