workers nearby, with the town in the background. [Indian men generally refuse to do menial work, they will only do 'skilled' work. So you see a lot of female laborers on building & construction sites.] The cranes, which normally start arriving in western Rajasthan in early fall from their breeding grounds in Central & East Asia, prefer to feed themselves in the fields initially. But from December until they leave in March, they opt for the "chugga" (grains) the locals provide. Demoiselle cranes can be spotted in at least 50 locations in Rajasthan, as well as other places in the country, but their preferred destination seems to be Khichan, giving the town pride of place on the world crane map. And the commitment by the locals has paid off as over 12,000 tourists visit the town annually to watch the spectacle. Good web site: http://www.savingcranes.org/species/demoiselle.cfm
