& wildlife sanctuary is located 36 kms from Bikaner, is said to be the largest hotel in the world. We didn't stay here, we just stopped here for lunch on our way to Bikaner ;o) Described as a 'Jewel in the Thar Desert', this grand heritage hotel, built on the embankment of a lake, was used as a winter palace & hunting resort by the former Maharajas and visiting British dignitaries during the days of the Raj. Although a Hindu king built the Palace, it has a flavour of both Rajput and Mughal architecture. The sprawling hotel sits on over 6000 acres, & the adjacent wildlife sanctuary is home to endangered antelopes like the chinkara, & other animals. It also attracts more than a 100 species of migratory birds during the winter months.
