in the park which is a concern as they compete with wildlife for valuable forage. Grazing & the collection of firewood & khus grass were phased out in 1983. Prior to that, some 2,500 cattle & water buffalo were allowed in the area. The ban led to local resentment, & the absence of grazing is also causing some management problems as vegetation blocks up the channels, & recycled nutrients from the dung deposited by livestock supports the insects.
