Fruit seller in Bhaktapur
Sightseeing in Nepal picture - There's a street in Kathmandu where all of the roadside vegetable vendors sell carrots. Just carrots, nothing else. Here they seem to think of specialization and generalization in a different way than I would. I would think that when you're doing something that's easy to do - like selling vegetables - it would make sense to be a generalist. Maybe the vegetable seller who decides to sell potatoes, cucumbers and lettuce would be much more successful than the many carrot-only vendors. On the other hand, restaurants here seem to generalize, when I think it'd be better to be a specialist because cooking multiple cuisines well is difficult. Better to do Italian well, than do Italian, Mexican, Thai, Indian and continental, all badly. Just my western, capitalist thoughts...
