Crossing this pass was an arduous day of hiking, with a steep ascent of 1000 meters and then a long descent of 1600 meters. The highest point of the pass is 5416 meters, the highest I've ever been above sea level. We lucked out on the weather for our pass crossing day: not a cloud in the sky, not even a swirl. When we started descending on the other side toward Muktinath it was a relief to be breathing thick, syrupy air again.
