Cuzco is one of the most enchanting cities in the Americas and is an important stop for most tours in Peru. Cuzco not only offers superb Spanish colonial architecture, but also spectacular Inca ruins in the vincinity of the city. Many of its Spanish colonial buildings were built on top of strong Inca foundations, making it a truly interesting style. The colonial centres are full of tourist shops, restaurants, and cafes. However, the no less interesting local markets and residential areas are not far away. There are excellent crafts markets and you can attend traditional dance shows with your Cuzco tourist ticket. At night, the city is beautifully lit and it exudes a very captivating atmosphere. Many of the windows and balconies are elaborate, some of them painted with beautiful blue contrasting with the white colour walls. The city can be touristy with many people asking you to take photos in exchange for money and sell you items, but you can still experience the charming and warm Peruvian hospitality. With all the rich culture and history, no wonder Cuzco is another Peruvian UNESCO world heritage site. It was the second stop of my Southern Divide tour after Lima.
