Although the palace may look rugged from the exterior, the interior has many enclosures with luxurious apartments with delicate balconies & hanging gardens, as well as massive octagonal towers & cupolas that offer breathtaking views over the lake & the city from the upper terraces.

There are several 'Mahals' (palaces) in this annex that are now preserved as a museum. Estabished in 1890, the museum is one of the earliest museums in the state. In addition to beautiful mosaics & glass & mirror work, the museum displays a vast & diverse array of artifacts ranging from miniature paintings to coins, sculptures, inscriptions, portraits, & wall paintings.
