I have very mixed feelings towards Tijuana. On the one hand, it is indeed a very rowdy, and honestly ugly touristy border city. Many people get very unfavourable image of Mexico because of Tijuana. You will be pestered to buy things as soon as you go to Revolution Avenue - the main area for tourists. On the other hand, Tijuana does boast some fine old buildings, particularly the Palacio Fronton on Revolution Avenue and the very impressive futuristic Tijuana cultural centre. I really enjoyed the cultural centre and its excellent museum on Mexican history. People call the cultural centre La Bola in Spanish as it resembles a ball. For the uninitiated, I do recommend taking a tour from San Diego to cover the interesting sites. When I was there, I got lost really badly! The difference between San Diego and Tijuana are quite shocking. Fortunately helpful people guided me back to the right way and I also had good authentic Mexican food as well...Another interesting and memorable experience is the encounter with the hospitable and friendly Mexicans. I tried to speak to them in Spanish and many people were patient with my Spanish. Many of them came from other parts of the country to Tijuana to search for work.
