Barcaldine is located 1080 km north-west of Brisbane and is a sleepy town with lots of pubs and unusual buildings. The town is famous for one of the most significant events in the political life of Australia: the shearers' strike of 1891, which played an important role in the events which led to the formation of the Australian Labor Party.
