Canberra is the federal capital of Australia and it is one of the more unusual destinations I have ever been to. It is a purposely built city to become the Australian capital. As a result, I got an “artificial” feel from this otherwise lovely city. The capital is very spacious and has many beautiful parks, making it a very pleasant place to visit. The Australian parliament building was just amazing, as was the Australian War Memorial. I was very touched by the exhibits and narratives of the Australian War Memorial. One thing though, I was trying to walk around the city and it was a mistake as the distance between major sites is huge. I missed some other attractions as I spent so much time walking around town! For me, probably it would be better to take a city tour. There were quite a few strip malls with restaurants and shops that were walkable. I had delicious curry and Korean barbeque for dinners, and I met some wonderful people in the hostel and on my way to Melbourne. I took the bus from Sydney to Canberra and it took around 4 hours. Afterwards, I took the overnight 8 hour bus to Melbourne. The bus driver for the Melbourne trip made it clear from the beginning that he would kick anyone out of the bus for smoking or causing problems! Fortunately no one got kicked off the bus;o) Please note that these photos were scanned by Wal Mart.
