Crewkerne, Somerset, England

The Georgian market town of Crewkerne lies in South Somerset which is near Ham Hill where splendid churches and villages are built of the golden coloured stone which is still quarried on Ham Hill to this day. The town makes an ideal spot to tour parts of South Somerset and is only about 12 miles from the Dorset coast.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reply. My original hometown is Fairfield, CT. It is in the southwest part of the state about 50 miles from New York City on Long Island Sound. After my stint in the Navy 1959-1962 wwe settled in Simsbury, CT (named after Simondsbury in England. Simsbury is located about 16 miles north and a little west of Hartford. I have also retrieved additional information from the Crewkerne website. Thanks. Ray

In doing genealogical research on my father's family for presentation to a family reunion in June, I find that our ancestors descended from Richard Hull b circa 1515 d 1559 and was baptized at St. Bartholomew's and whose godfather was Sir William Sherewell. The line goes from Richard to Thomas (the younger) to George, b 1590, who left for MA in 1632 and then on to Windsor and Fairfield in CT from where Alice Hull and Milton Jennings began the Jennings line in CT. I will be using the pictures of Crewkene in my presentation at tne reunion and hope to visit your beautiful town one day.
