Protection of the Holy Virgin Mary
Buildings in Ottawa picture - Russian Orthodox Memorial church, which was built in 1988 with donations by expatriate Russian Orthodox parishioners all over the world, to commemorate the millennium of Christianity's arrival in Russia (988). It is in Northern Russian style with five traditional cupolas, representing Christ and the four evangelists. Services are in Russian or Slavonic. I was surprised to find no pews or seats in the church, so I asked the priest. He explained that it is because it would be impertinent to sit in the presence of God. However, a few chairs around the perimeter are provided for the elderly and infirm.
