The French Riviera is ...
The Riviera picture - about 120 miles of Mediterranean coastline stretching westward from the Italian border. Its best known resorts are Menton, Nice, Antibes, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez. And although it's not part of France, you also get the tiny Principality of Monaco as a bonus. From Cannes westward the beaches are sandy; to the east the rugged coastline is spectacular. It's odd to see the Alps never far to the north, and their foothills reach the sea just east of Nice. They shield the area from the cold north winds, so you'll find palm trees all along the coast, and citrus trees galore at Menton.
