Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and with 189.343 inhabitants the third biggest city of Austria (after Vienna and Salzburg). The name Linz derives from Roman "Lentia", it was first mentioned in 400 A.D. In 2009 Linz will be European Capital of Culture.
