Bonnie Prince Charlie at Glenfinnan
Scenery in Scotland picture - This tower marks where it was believed Prince Charles Stuart planted his standard in 1745 in his effort to reclaim the crown of Scotland and England for his father. His actions led to the banning of the Highland clans, of tartan, of the bagpipe and to forced removal of clansmen from the Highlands. These actions were reversed within a generation and this monument to Stuart built in the 1840's. Many years later the actual spot where the standard was planted was discovered on a nearby hill.
