Established in 1935, the Valley of Fire is the oldest and largest State Park in Nevada. Covering over 34,880 acres (141 km²), the park gets its name from the red sandstone formations that were formed from shifting sand dunes in ancient times. Located 55 miles (90 kilometers) northeast of Las Vegas, the Valley of Fire State Park can be reached by either Interstate 15 (exit 75) or by Lake Mead's Northshore Road.
