I can't believe we lived in the New York area for four years and I never once visited the famous Statue, nor did I ever take a photo of it from Manhattan. Shows you what the pressures of selling advertising in the Big Apple can do to one's leisure time. My most touching memory of this magnificent structure was during the television coverage of the unveiling of the statue after a major restoration. An announcement interrupted the program to announce that my dear friend, neighbor and tennis partner Rudy Vallee had died. That was in 1984, and Rudy was 84 years old. The buildings behind the statue and those strange stars and moons on the lawn are all long gone. Photo was taken in 1930, from a book entitled 'Cities From the Sky'.
