In the Ait Atta womens' camp, where I stayed, the day started early. Before dawn we rose from the desert floor where we slept and prepared breakfast before the day's chores began. After breakfast the donkeys were loaded and one set of youngsters set off for the nearest well to fetch the day's water; another set of youngsters set off with the goats in search of desert grasses and a third set of youngsters set off to forage for firewood
