Treaty 4 Monument (tm)
Sightseeing in Saskatchewan picture - located on the very site that Treaty 4 was signed, was erected in 1915 by the Saskatchewan Branch of the Western Art Association. This 4th & most important of the 10 Indian treaties was signed on September 15, 1874, by 13 separate Cree & Saulteaux Nations (followed by the Assiniboine Nations) with the Queen of Great Britain. In the treaty, the Indians relinquished their right to 195,000 square kms of land to the Government of Canada in exchange for reserve lands, annuity payments, tax exemptions, medical services, schools, & a variety of other treaty rights.
