Waterrow is half way between Wiveliscombe and Bampton on the B3227 and is on the southern fringe of the Exmoor National Park. It is part of the parish of Chipstable along with the hamlet of Raddington and was known for many centuries as East and West Skirdal until the early 20th century. From the latter half of the 18th century, the name Waterrue, then Waterrow crept in, and for over a century both old and new names were in use.
