This is an attempt to remember the place we visited last week. It is Hampi, thanks to India book from lonely planet which gave us full through information that helped us in booking the guest rooms and other details of Hampi. Hampi is called as "City of Ruins" ..Hampi formed one of the cores of the capital of the Vijayanagara empire from 1336 to 1565. It was destroyed by Muslim emperors. Hampi was chosen because of its strategic location, bounded by the torrential Tungabhadra river on one side and surrounded by defensible hills on the other three sides.
We went to hampi in Hampi Express that connects Bangalore and Hubli that which is a popular option to reach Hampi from Bangalore. The train passes via Hospet, the nearest railway station for Hampi. Both the up and down journeys the train covers in the night, and that is one of the reasons for its popularity. So we turned back in the same train in a sleeper class which was very comfortable. Another website which gives full information on hampi is www.hampi.in.
Hampi in the Karnataka state of India is listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Hampi is charismatic even in its ruined state.
There are around 70 places to visit and requires 3 full days of sightseeing. If you ever plan on a trip to Hampi ..make sure you have complete 3 days.
