The Yangtze River passes between the Yulong and Haba Mountains in the Tiger Leaping Gorge. The gorge is one of the deepest in the world, and the 22 km trek above the river rivalled some of the scenery I saw in the mountains of Nepal. The Chinese government has proposed building a hydroelectric dam here, which would destroy the gorge and displace the local Naxi people.
