Some places I've seen disappointed me a bit (like the Taj Mahal, mainly because it was smaller than I expected and it didn't seem to have much life to it despite all the tourists swarming the grounds). The Great Wall, though, more than exceeded my expectations. The four-hour walk on top of the wall (up and down about 30 of these very steep watchtowers) was spectacular and one of my favorite parts of my visit to China.
