This is the place that took me most by surprise. It is an interesting blend of ancient and modern. The palace and the gardens surrounding it are magnificent and you can easily imagine sitting there 500 years ago, watching the royal family bustle about. The Danube is rather dirty (as are most of the rivers that run through Europe's main cities) but at night, the banks come alive with clubs and people just resting, talking, and even playing guitar and singing.
