This journal features three heritage churches - the Roman Catholic Sacred heart Cathedral, & two Ukrainian churches, one Catholic (St George) & one Orthodox (Holy Trinity). Another journal will feature the 'protestant' churches we visited in the city on our Prince Albert excursion.

Prince Albert, population about 35,000, is the 3rd largest city in Saskatchewan. The city is located in the broad valley of the North Saskatchewan River near the geographical center of the province, where the agricultural prairie of the South meets the rich forest belt of the North. (Prince Albert National Park, located just 51 kms north of the city, has many lakes, forest, and wildlife.) Much of the city is built on the sloping south bank of the river, while the north bank provides a spectacular view of mixed forest, typical of the area. Although centrally located, it is the most northern city in the province, earning the city the title "Gateway to the North."

More background information about Prince Albert will be provided in further journals.
