We visited Chambord in February of 2002. It was our first time out of the Paris area and our first visit to a castle. Hannah's first impression of castles was, "They are nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here. (because they are cold and drafty.) Well said, I think. We were impressed by its size and that it was built as a hunting lodge - just an extra vacation home.
