August is not the best time of the year to visit India, but Monsoon season makes for quite an experience. After heavy rains, roads in the mountain area of Himachal Pradesh can be blocked for hours and days by landslides, which makes it difficult to stick to pre-arranged schedules. If you take it easy, you can enjoy the relaxed Indian way of coping with long traffic jams and road blocks.
